Control of travel passes
In order not to get nervous at the sight of the control team, make sure, before getting on the tram, bus or minibus that you have a valid travel card. If, however, you happen to be detected without a ticket or travel pass or if there is something wrong with your travel card, here is what you need to know:
- Both people who haven’t purchased or haven’t validated their travel card, as well as the owners of travel cards who don’t have them on them or who don’t show them at the request of controllers or drivers are considered offenders.
- People detected in the means of transport without a valid travel card can pay on the spot a so-call “special travel fare”, of 99 lei, based on a receipt issued by the controllers. In this case, the statement of findings is not concluded and the follow-up is terminated. The alternative is that the control body to conclude a statement of findings of the contravention.
- Within 15 days (according to Law no. 203/2018) from handing over or communicating the minutes, the fine which has to be paid is half of the amount of the fine established by the decision of the Local Council.
- If the offender refuses to identify himself/herself, the controller can call on police officers or non-commissioned officers, gendarmerie or local police. During the entire period of identification and preparation of the minutes and/or until the arrival of the police or gendarmerie crew, as well as during the journey to a police or gendarmerie station, the offender is obliged to stay near the control crew.
- After paying the fine recorded in the minutes, the offender is obliged to send the proof of the payment to the Control Department of CTP Iasi within 15 days from the date of acknowledgement of the minutes.
- According to the new legal provisions, the special receipt issued upon payment of the special travel fine is similar to a one-day pass (valid 24 hours from the moment of filling in the data on the special travel fine) (HCL no. 417/2018, ANNEX II – Contract of Delegation of the Public Transport Service, chapter VI, art. 21, paragraph 8/2).
- If during the control, wrongly issued passes are detected from the points of sale of CTP Iasi travel cards, they will be retained, along with an apology to the passenger and an invite to pick up the pass the next day from the Control Department.
